On Friday, October 14, Mary and Adam received the call that would change their and Luke’s lives forever — Luke received a match! Mary and Luke flew out to UPMC Children’s Hospital that afternoon via Angel MedFlight and Luke had his transplant surgery Saturday morning. The surgery lasted around 10 hours. The surgeons were not able to close his stomach muscles so he will have to have another procedure in a year or two to do that, but otherwise, the transplant was a success! Luke’s team continues to be pleased with his progress, although he currently has no appetite or interest in eating so he had to have an NG tube placed for nutrition. Updates re made reguarly on Facebook at COTA for Luke’s Liver, so please follow along!
