Our Story

Hello everyone,

My name is Amanda, and I want to share the story of our beautiful baby girl, Madison Bailey Rose Rowland.

When her father and I found out we were having a girl, our hearts were filled with pure joy. Between us, we already had nine boys and 1 girl. We had always hoped and prayed for another girl. Madison is truly our miracle.

During my pregnancy, we learned that Madison has heterotaxy, meaning some of her organs developed in different positions. We were reassured that many people live normal lives with this condition, so we held onto hope and prayed everything would be okay.

On September 25, 2025, Madison was born at 38 weeks, weighing just 5 lbs 2 oz. She was tiny but perfect in every way. Shortly after birth, doctors ran tests and confirmed that in addition to heterotaxy, Madison also has asplenia (she was born without a spleen). This means her immune system is very fragile, and we must be extremely careful to protect her from illness.

As time went on, we noticed her jaundice worsening. After multiple appointments and repeated lab work, we received another devastating diagnosis—biliary atresia, a serious liver disease. Around 7 weeks old, Madison underwent a Kasai surgery to help restore bile flow. We waited anxiously, praying for a miracle. The surgery was successful, and for a short time, things seemed to improve.

But a few weeks later, her symptoms returned. More testing revealed that her liver is failing, and our sweet baby girl now needs a liver transplant to survive.

This journey has been overwhelming in every way. Between constant hospital visits, specialist appointments, and caring for Madison’s complex medical needs, I’ve had to step away from work to be by her side full-time.

Right now, we are praying every single day for a miracle—for a donor, for healing, and for strength to keep going.

We are asking for your prayers, care, and if you’re able, help through COTA for Madison’s Liver during this incredibly difficult time. Every prayer, share, and act of kindness means more to us than words can express.

Madison is a fighter. She is surrounded by so much love from her siblings and our family, and we are holding onto hope that she will get the chance to live the life she deserves.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
