7 years ago today it was confirmed that baby McKenzie had biliary atresia. They connected her intestines to her liver. The best doctors could say is we will have to wait about a month to know if the surgery worked. And if it didn’t, she would need a liver transplant. The plan was to stick around the hospital for about a week. Oh how we wished that ended up being the case. But the surgery did work, for the meantime. It wasn’t until later that we realized that we would in fact need the transplant.
