Liver Biopsy TOMORROW (1/23) for Myka Joy

We’re tremendously grateful for so many of you that have supported our family throughout Myka’s life, genetic disease and Liver Transplant journey!  Thanks for your continued support and encouragement. She’s made great strides over the last couple of years and focused on improving many secondary issues over the last 12-18 months during a season of health.  We wanted to quickly update everyone tonight because Myka will be headed to the Operating Room early tomorrow morning for the first time in over a year.

Unfortunately, the last month has resulted in several rounds of abnormal blood work which signals high “liver numbers.” Her ALT / AST / GGTP are elevated and rising to concerning (yet not  alarming) levels, according to her Transplant and Hepatology doctors.  We’re grateful for a stable ultrasound last week that showed very mild bile duct dilation (consistent with previous imagining) and good blood flow to all arteries.  The doctors want to explore the possibility of Myka experiencing “mild rejection” of her liver, so they’ll proceed with a Liver Biopsy tomorrow morning.

Report time is 6:30am, so her Liver Biopsy will most likely take place between 7:30am – 9:00am.  Our hope and prayer is for a successful biopsy procedure, no setbacks from anesthesia, quick recovery (w/ eating, drinking, meds & health) and especially no rejection for the organ. Will update more later tomorrow when we know more.  We appreciate your support and prayers!
