Successful Liver Biopsy – Myka is Home!

Thanks for all of your support for Myka today during her biopsy!  We greatly appreciate all the love, thoughts and prayers.  We’re glad to report that Myka is now home! (After getting some Chipotle rice, of course)

Today’s Liver Biopsy procedure was successful.  They were able to take 2 “passes” (samples) of her liver in the OR to send off for evaluation.  Myka did great in the Operating Room, with no complications, and, after resting well in recovery for a few hours, she began eating and drinking again around lunchtime.  She was monitored for a while after receiving another antibiotic before returning home safely this afternoon.

Myka’s Transplant / Hepatology (liver) doctors are concerned, but not yet alarmed with her rising “liver numbers.”  They could signal so many things, so the plan is to allow several days for the lab to analyze the liver pieces collected during the biopsy to either confirm or disprove rejection of the organ.  We continue to pray for no rejection in the liver; however, even if it’s not, the doctors will plan to swiftly pursue other diagnoses, like billiary (bile duct) issues, etc.  Join us in praying against bile duct issues, as well, because we’d rather not have to walk around with a bile bag again for several months.  When levels rise like this, there’s no quick or easy answers.

We’re staying positive, taking it one step at a time by faith and plan to keep riding Myka’s healthcare rollercoaster.  We understand that the transplant journey is never over for kids like Myka who have underlying genetic diseases that need frequent monitoring, daily meds, appointments, bloodwork and occasional procedures like this one.  We’re just so grateful to get such amazing healthcare here in Pittsburgh just 13 miles from our home!

We’ll plan to update everyone sometime in the middle of next week after we receive results and the doctor’s plans to move forward. Thanks again for your prayers and support!

Much Love – Richie, Regan, Alivia & Myka
