Post-Op Day 5

Post op Day 5: (6/24/25) Bubba boy is doing well. We have had a little bit of a set back, not serious. He has chylous ascites. Chylous ascites is the accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the abdominal cavity. It is a rare but recognized complication following liver transplantation. It occurs due to disruption of lymph vessel flow, leading to leakage of triglyceride (fat) containing fluid into the abdomen. Diagnosis is based on the presence of milky fluid with high triglyceride levels. Most of the time it is treated with a special formula similar to the one he was on prior to transplant. It just takes a couple of weeks to clear up. His bili levels are continuing to drop and he is a happy boy!
