The First 24

We are almost 24 hours post op now. Nora has been doing great! Overnight Nora was pretty comfortable and her vitals remained pretty stable. She needed a little bit of fluid and replenishing of different things like calcium, albumin, and magnesium. Her liver function tests, ALT and AST remained elevated (like in the thousands) but this is expected and we are starting to see them slowly trend down. Her ammonia is slightly elevated to 64 but they believe this will come down more as her other labs start to improve. Her INR continues to steadily improve which indicates the liver is functioning. Vitals have been pretty stable all day. She has been mostly comfortable this afternoon but moving her arms and legs a little, even grabbing her tube once. Luckily we were quick enough to get her hand before she pulled anything out. Tomorrow afternoon/evening she will go back to the OR to close. Dr. C said they may only be able to close part way and need to take her back to completely close on Friday. It just depends on the amount of swelling. He put in the entire left lobe of an adult liver and he does not want any pressure on it. Any pressure could cause it to fail at this point. Her US for blood flow today show improved flow compared to last night immediately post op, which is great. Her antibody A titer was also <1 so no plasmaphoresis today. We still have another critical 24 hours to get through and a trip back to the OR. We are so thankful for the great progress and numbers thus far but pray she continues to exceed expectations! Please continue to pray as tomorrow will be another long day. Hour by hour we are taking it and praying God continues to do amazing things with Nora and her recovery! God is Great!
