Staying Strong at Home

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Ours has been good but not without a little excitement. We had a trip back to the ED this morning. No worries, Nothing serious. Her feeding tube, which is where we give her her meds was clogged. We tried some clog zapper last night with no luck and tried again this morning. So of course the nurse was immediately able to push water through when we got there. But we did get a new part that will help us clear any clogs on our own in the future. Since we couldn’t use her NJ tube this morning she had to take most of them by mouth. She actually took all of them but 2 without any problem. The hard ones were here antibiotic that is done today! The other is her valganciclovir which we have for awhile still. Overall she gets happier and more like herself everyday. Last week we met with hematology and they said likely 3 months for the lovenox injections. Nora is doing awesome with these. The worst part is wiping her leg clean before and she likes putting her bandaid on afterwards. She has been doing great with her lab draws and we only have two more weeks of 3x/wk. Then it’ll be 2x/wk until the end of October. It is so nice to do them at the lab in EP vs down at the U. This upcoming week will be very busy with appointments. We have to do an extra lab draw on Tuesday for hematology. She starts PT again tomorrow. Wednesday we have an ultrasound of her clot then meet with GI and the back to EP for labs. Thursday we see Dr. C again. Then either Thursday or Friday she will have her port removed by Dr. C. Her incision is looking great but there is a little pocket of fluid near it that the ED said Dr C needs to evaluate and potentially drain if he’s concerned about it. Otherwise we get to stop one medication today and then once is switching to a mouth rinse on Wednesday. We have to soak a sponge in the med then wipe it all over her mouth 4x/day. Wish us luck! They keep telling us kids hate this one. Have a great week and we will likely post an update later in the week!
