Chemo Day 2 & 3

After her first dose of chemo, Day 2 was a rough one. The first round of chemo hit Rae hard, but did exactly what it’s supposed to do. The first dose completely wiped out her T-cells. They responded by releasing proteins that caused her to feel like she has the flu. So, she spent much of the day sleeping and had very little appetite.

The good news: Day 3 is much better! Because the first dose of chemo was so effective, her body had little response to the second dose. Her appetite is back, and she has been awake and active today. She got to enjoy some donuts, then worked them off during her first visit from PT. She was able to walk 5 laps around the room, and attempted to hit Hannah with the IV pole, so sadly there’s no change to her driving skills! 😂🤣 She has also been very full of attitude, especially now that Hannah is here visiting. It’s good to see her feeling better!

What’s next?

Tomorrow she will get her last dose of the rATG chemo and begin her first dose of Bulsulfan and Flufarabine chemo treatments. The new treatments will be done at midnight and 1am. Following her first dose of the new treatments, they will draw labs to determine how her body responds, then set up the next day’s treatments accordingly. This will help ensure they are effective, but not overly toxic.
