Ron is doing extremely well. His doctors were very pleased with everything at his postoperative visit on Monday, August 12. He will have a follow up visit in September and must take it easy for 6-8 weeks. He has the usual postoperative fatigue but still visits Reese twice a day.

Reese overall is doing well. He has daily, sometimes hourly, ups and downs sending our fears through the roof one minute and then praising God with relief the next. Doctor’s and nurses say this is typical for liver transplants but quite exhausting and very sad to see baby Reese struggling. He is still on a ventilator but is slowly breathing more on his own. He has had major fluid retention posing threats to his blood pressure and vessels, so it has been a constant battle of trying to take off the correct amount of fluid and yet keeping enough volume flowing to stimulate the new liver. He started on his first antirejection medications Monday, and they increased the dosage today. All in all, everything is still progressing positively, we’re just learning to cope with these bumps in the road. They were prepared for a rough surgery and recovery, but just didn’t realize how tense it would be daily. This is why we are so grateful for your encouragement, prayers and support.

Lexi is hanging in there and trying to stay strong for Reese. She is doing what she needs to do: eating, sleeping and pumping for when Reese can have breastmilk again. The emotional aggravation of these daily challenges is proving to be more than expected. She truly appreciates the continual emotional support during this time.
