The New Normal

Greetings friends & family,

My apologies for the huge delay in this update. It is with great joy and gladness that I am able to tell you that Roman is doing wonderfully well! He has passed all of his follow-up appointments with flying colors. He is now off all medications except his anti-rejection medication which he will likely take for the rest of his life. We have survived the winter with its various viruses and illnesses and Roman made it through his first stomach bug and high fever without a visit to the ER. Hydration is the key with him and thankfully he is very good about staying hydrated when he is sick.

His dad (Hunt) and his grandfather (Greg) continue making the treks to Vanderbilt for his appointments with his transplant team. His brothers have been able to attend occasionally which has been fun for them.

Roman and his family are settling into their new rhythm as are the rest of us. He is as healthy as a 9 year old boy who went through liver failure and transplant can be! It is a continual joy to look out my window and see him flying by on his bike or playing baseball in the field with his parents and little brothers.

On a separate fundraising note I would like to thank you all again for your incredibly generous donations and prayers. We have been able to raise just over $92,000 dollars which is absolutely mind blowing. These funds will be available for Roman for the rest of his life for transplant related expenses. As just one example, that anti-rejection medication I mentioned early can cost as much as $1200/month depending on his insurance. Thankfully he has received MAP (Medication Assistance Program) financial aid thus far, but Roman will be paying for this medication for the rest of his life and this fund has the ability to help with that. So know that your donations are so very much appreciated and will have a lasting impact on this sweet boy.

Thank you all for hanging in with us thus far! I will be back in a month or two, but for now just assume that no news is good news. New pictures will also be coming soon!

With love and gratitude,

Kate
