18 hours post surgery

I mostly posted on FB and Instagram yesterday as it was easier to post from a mobile device. My Insta handle is @amp0428 if you are only on Insta.

The days are starting to run together. We are thankful to have yesterday behind us. The surgery was a success overall. It took a little over 14 hours with some difficulties with the pancreas due to the condition and adhesion. They were able to successfully extract some islet cells from the remaining pancreas. We pray that the quality of the islet cells is good enough to engraft into the liver to produce insulin. Scarlett’s team did a great job trying set expectations for what was next leaving the surgery. We were able to see her close to midnight and it was undescribly hard seeing her hooked up to so may things and a breathing tube. We hit a few bumps in the road through out the night with insulin levels, pain management, low blood pressure and kidneys but most have been resolved.

This morning it took a while to be able to remove the breathing tube. She was not triggering her own breathing due to the amount of pain meds she was on. Once they discontinued those she was alert and handled all of the extubation like a champ. Her Glucose has been a little tricky since her body has been shocked into Diabetes but the nurses here are amazing and managing it well. She is struggling with some pain management and they are trying to keep her as comofortable as possible.  She currently has a low grade temp which is not unusual but they keep a close monitor with these post surgery.

We have met with the hematologist, PT, OT, Endocrinology, Surgical, Anestheisa, Pain management and there could be another one in there I can’t remember. She is officially in 3 studies and there maybe more coming.

We are asking for continued prayers for overall healing, Pain Management, Kidneys to increase their output, Glucose levels to stay between 80 – 120 and for her fever to stay stable.

We are so thankful for all of the love and prayers day to day through this journey. Please continue to pray.

Love,

Alissa
