Our Story

Ethan was born on October 12, 2004, to parents, Terry and Tonya Thorne, two older
sisters and two older brothers. Ethan was diagnosed with Posterior Urethral Valve Obstruction, and started dialysis when he was one month old. Ethan came home from UNC Children’s
Hospital three months later. He was connected to the dialysis machine each night for two years.
On November 28, 2006, Ethan received his first kidney from a family friend. (What a wonderful gift of love that was.)
Ethan will be needing a second kidney transplant sometime soon as his current kidney
function is declining.
Ethan is now fourteen years old. His favorite thing to do is to play video games, also
eating boneless wing meals. One favorite past-time he has is to aggravate his nieces, nephew, sisters and brothers. He is also part of the Youth Group at Cornerstone Community Church and is planning to go on the Mission trip in June. Ethan attends Northeast Carolina Prep School in Tarboro, N.C.
Recently, Ethan has developed an interest in playing the guitar and has started learning
some chords. He is learning very quickly by searching the internet and looking at You Tube
teaching videos.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
