A Bit of Disappointing News…Transplant Postponed

I had typed up a post on Facebook & IG giving everyone an update and wanted to copy/paste it here as well just in case it missed a few people.

Hi friends, this is a hard thing for me to share. A lot of you probably know that we were planning to leave for Ohio for Isaacs kidney transplant today (Nov 14th). Our car was packed, we had a home rented for the next few months, we had school arranged…everything was set to go and we were SO over the moon to be at this place and getting our boy feeling better.
We got a call this past week that Isaacs most recent blood test wasn’t reacting so well with our donor. We scrambled to get more testing done and WAITED super anxiously for several days and we found out for sure Thursday evening that we will need to postpone the transplant. The news was a huge punch to the gut. We have been waiting for over two years for this. Life has felt like its been largely on hold for a long time as we’ve been anticipating this. It’s been a hard few days adjusting to the news…BUT, the very good bit in the middle of it – we are still VERY hopeful that we will be able to continue with our current donor and this will only be a delay of 6-8 weeks. The antibodies are all on Isaacs end and should chill out in the coming weeks. Our doctors still really feel good about our donor, which is encouraging! Most likely these ‘antibodies’ are from Isaac getting strep a few weeks back. How he got it is another mystery, but things happen even when we are trying our best! We will be retesting frequently and hopefully reschedule soon ???????? In the meantime, we do get to spend the holidays together, which feels like a gift in the middle of the disappointment. We have been overwhelmed with kindness from our school, town and friends who have prepared us to leave so well…and hopefully, we still will soon. ??
Also… if Isaacs donor happens to be reading this – we have thought about you a lot these past few days too. Like us, I know you had made many plans and this is also not what you expected. I would love it if we could have the opportunity to talk and all share some of the stories from these times. There is so much I would like to say and hope someday, we can.
