Thank you everyone for your donations to COTA in honor of Jason. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and we can feel all of your love and support. The road after transplant has had it’s ups and down. The day and week after transplant was a rollercoaster. Immediately after his transplant Jason had some complications, but with his parents and the medical team on his side he pulled through. We were able to go home two weeks after his transplant. It was so nice to be a family again after having restrictions at the hospital due to COVID.
It took a few days for Jason to be comfortable at home, but after getting a routine set he did really well. He wasn’t too sure about our dog at first, but now he wants to play with him all the time, and now the dog isn’t too sure about him. He is really active and enjoys going on wagon rides, swimming in his kiddie pool, and crawling/ standing all the time.
We are still working on getting him to eat enough so that we can stop using his Nasogastric tube to feed him, but with the help of nutrition and speech at the hospital we are making baby steps. We will have his first outpatient cath procedure at the end of August to make sure his donor heart is still doing well and his body isn’t rejecting it. He may also get to come off of some of his medications for pulmonary hypertension after then if everything looks good.
We are going to the hospital at least once a week for doctors appointments, and there is a spot in our kitchen dedicated to all of the medications Jason has to take, but our new normal is so much nicer than hospital life. We have to get used to the idea that he has a new working heart and that not every spit up or sweat on his head is because of his heart. Mommy and Daddy are trying not to worry as ordered by his transplant team.
Jason (Mommy) is looking forward to his first birthday in a couple months and with the ok from transplant we are planning to have a family get together in the backyard. Of course while social distancing and making sure everyone quarantines first two weeks before. We have definitely had a trying first year, but our little guy means the world to us and we are so grateful he got his gift of a new heart and is doing so well.
Thank you all again for your continued support, well wishes, and prayers. We will continue to update you all on our little guys progress.
