June 2021: 2 year update

PFT June 2021

It’s been almost 2 years since my transplant, so I had a clinic appt to mark the occasion.

First up was bone density scan. Last time I had this done right before my transplant, I was diagnosed with osteopenia, the precursor to osteoporosis. I’ve been medicating every since. I’ll find out the results later this week to see if anything has improved, stayed the same, or progressed. Maybe that’s why my wrist broke so easily in the car accident? The scan involced my lying on a bed with my knees raised. A scanning arm went over my legs up past my hips. Fully clothed, very quick proceedure.

I had a few chest x-rays and 8 tubes of blood drawn before my pulmonary function test. My PFT score was a bit lower than last time, but nothing to be concerned about. I met with the doctor and discussed my treatment plan. Nothing changes except I don’t have to go back as often. Finally, before heading home, I had another covid swab in advance of my bronchoscopy on Friday.

The surgeon will go back into my lungs to check to see if my airways are still open after they removed the stent about 5 weeks ago. I haven’t had any shortness of breath or wheezing since it was removed, so fingers crossed my airways are looking good and we won’t need to replace the stent. Prior to the stent being removed, I had increased the time between bronchs to about every 8 weeks. This time, the wnidow between bronchs was shortened becasue the stent was taken out. They want to catch any narrowing of the airways more quickly than if they had waited an extra few weeks.

Let me know if you have any questions about my tests or my clic visit. This is all so routine to me, I’m not sure what should be more detailed.
