A while back, I posted that Max needed to have some of his vaccines redone before he could be active on the transplant list. We recently found out that he is still not immune to Hepatitis B, so we had to go again today for another vaccine. He’ll need a second dose in a month and a third dose six months after that.
The doctors are hopeful that he will show immunity within a few weeks after the second vaccine, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed. Unfortunately, this has pushed back his transplant timeline because he cannot receive a transplant until he has the immunity he needs.
To be honest, all of this is a little frustrating because we really thought June would be the month that things started moving forward. But we’ve learned that this journey rarely follows the timeline we hope for, and we’re choosing to stay hopeful and focus on the progress being made.
The silver lining is that he gets to enjoy his summer, but if we find a matching donor, he will most likely end up missing some school while going through the transplant process and recovery. My biggest hope is that everything can be completed before it’s time for him to audition for the musical—we all know how much he loves being on stage.
Please continue to keep Max in your thoughts. We appreciate all of the love, support, and prayers more than you know.
