Since Peri’s surgery she has remained on ECMO support. They have decreased the amount of support marginally over the last couple of days, which has given Peri’s heart time to rest. Today they will do a wean trial in which they will decrease the amount of support gradually over the course of the day. The goal is for Peri’s heart to take on the work of pumping blood to her lungs and body. The doctors all indicate that they are cautiously optimistic (as they can never safely make any promises). If Peri is successfully removed from ECMO, they will be able to close her chest and the healing process can begin. From there, we will work toward extubating again. We are grateful for all the good thoughts and vibes sent Peri’s way.
We hope every day for a new heart. Despite the struggle, Peri is continuing to show how resilient and strong she is.
I think Peri takes right after her Mommy and Daddy RESILIENT!!!
