This week we celebrate National Pediatric Transplant Week by officially getting our sweet Wesley on the transplant list!! If you want to know more about how the list officially works, visit UNOS.org — that’s the governing body that maintains transplant wait lists. It’s all very interesting.
Here are some pediatric transplant statistics from UNOS:
1. Nearly 2,000 children under the age of 18 are on the national transplant waiting list. More than 500 of the children waiting for transplant are between one and five years of age.
2. More than 1,800 children received transplants in 2017.
3. There were 900 pediatric organ donors in 2017, ranging in age from newborn to 17.
4. Most children under the age of one are waiting for a heart or liver.
PLEASE, if you are not already an organ donor, take a moment to register here: DonateLife.net Give the gift of life to these children who are currently in the wait! And, if you register as a result of Sir Wesley, please let us know. We’re honored to see how his young life is already changing this world for the better.
