I am so grateful. I’ll start there. One should always start there. There is much in these past few weeks worthy of celebration and praise. I was a match for my son! He had a rare disease with a life-saving solution! He survived a liver transplant and two bowel resection surgeries. We are both on the road to recovery! Praise Jesus!
There is also much grief to work through. All those nights I didn’t get to curl up next to my baby. All those days he wasn’t in my arms. All those times I pumped rather than feeling his nearness. All that time we were apart. All those times I watched him go through things babies shouldn’t have to go through. Those smile-less days we had to endure. All those medicines. All these fears about germs going forward. More scars — so many scars. Withdrawals from narcotics. Being away from Nora and missing her to the point of heartache.
But everything was worth it to watch Sir Wes pink up, watch his eyes get white and see my liver working so perfectly in him.
Thank you Dr. Magliocca and Dr. Adams for the life saving work you do. Thank you to the amazing staff at Egleston — especially the nurses and techs who have cared for us for a looooooong time. Thank you to our people for the way you’ve cared — rallied even.
Thank you Jesus for carrying us through back to the holding and nursing, smiling and living. Here’s to a future filled with more kisses than pokes and more days at home than in the hospital. We see the light at the end of this tunnel and we are grateful.
