Small Victories

Tj had a good night. His blood sugar levels were within normal range. He was able to start using his Dexcom G7 to minimize his finger sticks. This a blessing and a small victory because his little fingers were so bruised, due to the fact that Tj can only get stuck in his right hand, since his blood glucose levels are significantly lower in his left. The doctors had to do arterial blood draw, and his right fingers are the most accurate fpr the procedure. His toes are also not an option for sticks because the readings in his toes are too high. The Dexcom will allow monitoring of his blood sugars every four hours instead of every hour to thirty minutes depending on the level.

Another small victory is his kidney levels are still with in normal range. Tj is still having some stomach cramping and intestinal spasms. The team has been very proactive about it by giving him scheduled pain medication, this is great, because unfortunately Tj has started having some small seizures when it’s time for his pain medication. We are hopeful that we can go to the transplant floor soon if his levels continue to be within normal range. Tj will be working with OT and PT today to see if he can sit up today because he was unable to sit up yesterday due to pain and g-tube getting clogged causing his blood sugars to drop drastically. Tj is continuously trying hard to meet his goals in spite of some setbacks. We are thankful for the small victories and that Tj is still smiling through everything
