Today is a day of celebration 🎉

Zach officially moved out of the PICU! The medical team started preparing him for the room change by removing his arterial line and several medication pumps. He’s now down to just two pumps, compared to the eleven he had right after surgery — such amazing progress.

He even walked with physical therapy around the unit — about 400 feet — looking steady and strong, and sat upright in his chair for most of the afternoon.

Occupational Therapy worked with him on leg exercises and strengthening. It helped, though even simple things like a trip to the bathroom still take a lot out of him and can increase his pain.

Next, they’ll begin transitioning him off IV insulin and onto a manually controlled insulin pump for the time being.

Big steps today, and so much to be grateful for.
