Sleep has been difficult the last couple of nights, but last night was the first time Zach finally got a restful night’s sleep. Such a small win that felt huge.

The medical team has slowly started reintroducing food. Over the past few days, he’s had a strawberry banana smoothie, a PB&J sandwich, and a few crackers. After everything he’s been through, I’m sure it felt like he was eating a big steak.

Today, Zach and his mom met with the diabetes specialist to learn how to use his glucose monitor and the insulin pods. It’s a lot to take in. His pain is under control, though he’s still dealing with some bloating.

Right now, the focus is on stabilizing his glucose levels and gradually removing the tube feedings. He’s down to just two pain medications, which is real progress, though he remains on several others. He’ll be on antibiotics for the next year, along with additional medications to help his intestinal tract and stomach heal.

Step by step, Zach is moving in the right direction.
