Our Story

Xiavier was born August 1st, 2008. At just three months old, Xiavier was diagnosed with Dialated Cardiomyopathy. He spent almost two months at Advocate Christ Hope Hospital. He was a child who didn’t have a regular childhood. He had to grow up taking medications and had plenty of hospital and doctor visits. As he grew older, his condition was manageable. He went on to be a great son and kid. He was accepted into Devry University Academic Academy to earn his Associates Degree in Computer Science while finishing his junior and senior year of high school. My son is a warrior, a very smart one at that. He just loves to work out and play his video games. Sixteen years later, a normal day where I thought my son was constipated turned out to be the worst day of our lives. I took him to the emergency room and he was in heart failure. Action needed to be taken immediately. The doctors at Advocate Children’s Hospital were our only hope. They took great care of him and our family. After being on the heart transplant list for only a week, Xiavier was blessed with more life to astonish the world with his big and bright personality and genius. He plans on becoming a scientist and I am excited to watch him be able to accomplish all of his life goals.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
