Anna Has New Lungs!

We need to bring you up to speed! Anna received her second lifesaving double lung transplant on October 8, 2019 at Duke University Hospital!!! We are so grateful for the gift of life made possible by the generous act of an organ donor. We know the donor’s family is processing the loss of a loved one right now. We hope they know how precious this gift of life through organ donation is to so many people. Grief and loss coupled with hope and life…It’s really quite paradoxical.

Anna’s recovery has been relatively uncomplicated. She was off the ventilator several hours after surgery and walking with assistance less than 24 hours after surgery. She encountered some issues with low blood pressure which required several medications to stabilize it and a longer stay in the ICU. After transferring out of the ICU, Anna continued to heal and improve. She has now been in the hospital for 24 days. The last of her six chest tubes was removed today and our hope is she will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. We’ll let you know. 🙂
