A Day in Benjamin’s Life

People often ask what life looks like for Benjamin.

And the truth is… it looks a lot like any other 3-year-old’s life.

He wakes up full of energy.
He wants to play, laugh, explore, and get into everything.
He’s silly, curious, and full of personality.

Most days, you would never know what his little body is going through.

But behind the scenes, there’s so much more.

There are medications around the clock.
There are feeds 4x a day with boluses pedialyte and water.
There are appointments, labs, and constant monitoring.

There are moments where I have to pause and think about things most parents never have to think about.

Is he drinking enough?
Is he feeling okay?
Is anything changing?

Every day is a balance between letting him just be a kid… and making sure he stays healthy and safe.

And then there’s the part that never really goes away.

The waiting.

Even on the most normal days, it’s always there in the background.

We are still waiting for a kidney.

Waiting for the call.
Waiting for the right match.
Waiting for the moment that will change everything.

But Benjamin doesn’t carry that weight the way I do.

He just lives.

He plays hard.
He laughs loud.
He loves deeply.

And in so many ways, he reminds me to do the same.

This journey is not easy.
Some days feel heavier than others.

But every single day, I am reminded of how strong he is.

And how grateful I am to be his mom.

So for now, we hold onto the normal moments.

The laughter.
The chaos.
The joy.

Because even in the middle of everything…

He is still just a little boy living his life.

And that is something I will never take for granted.
