Our Story

At our 20 week anatomy scan, we were told our baby had a heart defect, and would likely need surgery shortly after birth to correct this condition. There was a lot of back and forth about what type of defect he had because it was very difficult to diagnose even with the countless echocardiograms and ultrasounds. On April 4th, 2023, Cam Elliot was born at UAMS in Little Rock and transported immediately to Arkansas Children’s hospital for evaluation and care. Cam was diagnosed with LTGA with an interrupted aortic arch and a VSD. After his first echo and evaluation, it was determined that his anatomy was far too complex to be corrected by the planned surgeries, so they went back to the drawing board. When he was 10 days old he had a stop-gap surgery to place a stent and two pulmonary bands to help control the blood flow in his heart. At this time it was determined that Cam would need a heart transplant before he could go home and join the rest of his family.

On April 19th 2023, Cam was officially listed at status 1A  for his heart. He has spent every day of his life at ACH and will continue to do so until he gets his match. Cam is currently ventilated, on a paralytic, and receiving his nutrients through his IV. He has had countless tests on his small body and continues to fight through infections as they arise. The team at ACH has been incredible with Cam’s care and we are so thankful to have a heart transplant center in our home state.

We don’t know how long we will be waiting for his heart, but we ask that you continue to pray for him and for the family of his future donor. Cam’s care comes with a very high price and he will continue to need high level care for the rest of his life. Your donations will support him throughout his heart transplant journey and long after with expenses that will continue to accumulate.

All donations to COTA in honor of Cam will help with transplant-related expenses, such as the costs of us being in Little Rock with our baby while he awaits his transplant, traveling to and from, medical bills, and future medications and therapies.
