Ela had some post-op excessive bleeding complications shortly after they took her to the CICU from the operating room. The surgeon had to re-open her chest, spend quite a bit of time going after lots of little bleeders (caused by her collaterals) and get the bleeding back under control. We finally were able to see her around 2 PM this afternoon. She is on lots of medicines. Three of her meds are immunosuppressants and then she’s on many others that include a paralytic and heavy sedatives. She is also on a ventilator that is doing all the breathing for her. She has 3 chest tubes and her chest remains open this time in case the excessive bleeding becomes an issue again. Her heart is beating well and they are happy with where she is right now. She is also being continuously monitored for seizure activity for the next 48 hours. It’s hard to see our baby girl so helpless and in this fragile state. But she has warm hands and feet that are not blue anymore! She has a whole heart beating inside her! So still a long ways to go, but still so thankful. Thank you for the abundance of love and prayers going up for Ela and our family right now.
