Today was a perfect day. It started with a therapy session at the hospital with our favorite Dr. M and then some pet therapy with Charlotte ๐ and a trip to the Columbus Zoo with Lexi (her friend she met at pediatric pancreatitis camp). Lexi has been hospitalized with Gillian a couple different times and we have become really close with her sweet family. ๐ The animals at the zoo were so fun to see, but the manatees were our favorite. We spent the majority of our time watching them eat and swim, it was surprisingly peaceful. Dr. M has really helped Gillian see how emotionally traumatic chronic pain is. While having surgery to remove the cause of the pain takes care of the physical problems, there is a long history of emotional trauma from years of pain without answers and/or not being believed by some Drs she has seen in the past. And working through trauma from her journey after the surgery, respiratory failure, coding and being on the vent for as long as she was, has been really hard for her to look back on. This girl has been faced with so much in her short life and she is the most incredible woman. She walks through every one of these challenges with her head high and faces things head on. This girl is going to move mountains & I will always look up to you my sweet Gillibeans ๐๐
