Gillian is 2 days post-op from her hernia repair. Yesterday we transferred from ICU to the GI unit on the 11th floor, and she has the same rockstar nurse who cared for her right after her TPIAT. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anyone here—Nationwide Children’s is so good to these kids.
We’ve been surrounded by so much encouragement, including motivational notes from the therapist who works with TPIAT patients.
The move yesterday was hard on her, and watching her in that much pain absolutely shattered my mama heart. Even then, with her body trembling, she still managed to smile at everyone who walked in and thank them for caring for her 🥹
Her doctors, along with the pain team, found the right combination to finally get her pain to a manageable level. And somehow, she found the strength to get up and walk yesterday 🥹 I truly don’t know how she does it or where she keeps finding the strength to push through.
Last night was rough with very little sleep, but today brought some good naps and another incredible walk. During it, we spotted sweet notes from the construction crew on the beams: “Hope you feel better!” and “Have a fun time 🙂”
She had her first post-op meal today and sat up in a chair while we watched a show together and listened to the rain outside.
This life can be so hard, and sometimes it’s difficult to see the good—but she always does. She calms my heart and shows grit and grace in everything she faces.
Today was a really good day full of progress. We are grateful beyond words for all of you. Sending our love from Ohio ❤️
