Today marks a milestone that feels like a lifetime and yet has been full of miracles. Five weeks ago today, we were admitted into the hospital. While the hospital walls have become familiar, our focus isn’t on the time that has passed, but on just how far Jake has come. We are so grateful that Jake had another strong day! Every day brings new victories that are leading to big progress.
One of the biggest wins today was his breathing. Jake was able to spend almost the afternoon on a regular nasal cannula, which is a significant step down from the high-flow oxygen! He will continue to use the CPAP overnight to support his lungs while he sleeps, but seeing him breathe comfortably during the day is such an answered.prayer.
Jake was busy as he worked with his entire therapy team: Respiratory (RT), Physical (PT), Occupational (OT), and Speech Therapy. The team has scheduled a formal swallow study for tomorrow (Thursday) morning and Jake is beyond excited. He is so ready for the possibility of finally having something to eat or drink. We are praying his muscles are ready so we can move one step closer to getting rid of the feeding tube and going home.
He will also be having an X-ray on his right shoulder. Since the stroke, he has had some trouble moving his right arm but has made huge strides below the elbow. His shoulder, however, seems to be almost frozen in place. This xray should tell us if there are any structural issues that need to be addressed. This will also allow Occupational Therapy to be as effective as possible with his treatment.
Jake continues to make progress with PT even when it hurts and he is completely exhausted. He shows up every day with a level of grit that leaves us astounded. He wants to get better and he proves it each time. We could not be more proud of his heart and his determination.
Thank you for continuing to walk this path with us. Your prayers continue to make all the difference!
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Lamentations 3:25-26

Wow! Adding so many answers to prayer! Will keep praying for you Jacob. I am amazed at your courage. Keep it up.
You look great Jacob! Continue the good work! Harriet
