One Year Update (plus 2 months)

Jen celebrated her one-year transplant anniversary at the end of January and was rewarded with a trip back to Duke University Medical Center for a check-up with Dr. Reynolds. Everything came up roses—clear bronchoscopy and no rejection! Jen also checked in with the kidney team—her kidneys continue to hold their own. Woo hoo! Duke Health recently featured Jen in a blog post, recognizing her grit and determination in successfully navigating recovery from her third double-lung transplant. It’s a great read: https://www.dukehealth.org/blog/third-lung-transplant-duke

So, what did Jen do with all of this great news? She and Duke (her sweet pup, not the medical folks) travelled on to Florida to visit with family and enjoy warmer weather. Jen’s trip was interrupted with an unexpected visit to the ER where she was diagnosed with middle lung lobe pneumonia. Thanks to the excellent medical care between the local doctors and advice from the team at Duke, a boost of meds allowed for a quick discharge and recovery under her mom’s supervision. This was the first test of her new lungs and the pneumonia swiftly cleared. It’s amazing what healthy lungs can do with a little medical intervention. Since her return to Indy, Jen has been busy using her healthy lungs to cheer on the IU women’s basketball team.

As always, thanks for supporting Jen and thanks for supporting COTA in honor of the Jen Warrior campaign. Onward!
