Madness in March Update

Madness in March—we love this time of year in Indiana. For Jen, it’s been a different kind of madness as she was admitted to the hospital in late March. But like all things in basketball and in life, the madness keeps things unpredictable and interesting!

This update comes as Jen is a patient at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis fighting a lung infection commonly acquired in the transplant community. She’s making great progress and could be home later this week to finish her treatment. Recovery is expected to take several weeks. The infection was somewhat of a surprise, as Jen has been fighting infection off and on all winter until this one cropped up swiftly, and suddenly caused her to need oxygen therapy, inpatient care, and more aggressive treatment. Thankfully both her medical teams at IU Health and Duke University were quickly on the case and she is making incredible progress (teamwork making the dream work).  It’s been three years since Jen has been hospitalized for any length of time, and as you can imagine, she is eager to break out of the hospital as soon as possible! Jen knows that when she leaves, she will continue with rehab, oxygen therapy, and more aggressive treatment for a short time to get back to her feisty self. Your well wishes and support are much appreciated!

Jen is receiving excellent care in the hospital; her family is caring for her wonderful dog Duke; and she anticipates the comforts of home soon. If there’s one thing to keep entertained during this time, it’s been watching amazing basketball games— so keep rooting for your teams, and Jen, too!  Jen is thankful for the continued support from friends and family in her transplant journey. Her portable oxygen machine was able to quickly be serviced and used when she needed it thanks to the COTA funds donated in her honor. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity.
