Stent Procedure 04/28

It has been two months since Kaiden has come home and he has been doing well since his transplant! He has regained full mobility and is constantly on the move! When he’s not chasing the dogs around the house, he loves going on socially distanced walks when the weather permits. The walks are a sanity-saver for him and his family.

He has also been adapting very well to his new role as a big brother. Other than a quick nibble or two on his baby brother’s chunky arm, he’s been a model sibling.

Shortly after the transplant, the doctors noted symptoms that showed Kaiden’s bile duct had become occluded. The donor’s bile duct had been dilated and Kaiden’s had narrowed. They placed a stent to correct the issue. The stent they placed was meant for another smaller organ because they didn’t want to risk puncturing anything. During the procedure they saw there was sediment in the donor’s bile duct that would possibly occlude the new stent. Tomorrow, Kaiden will have a procedure to prevent the stent from becoming occluded again. Once the current stent is removed, doctors will determine whether or not Kaiden will need a new, bigger stent or if it can be removed entirely.

We will have updates once Kaiden is resting comfortably in recovery. Please keep Kaiden and his family in your thoughts.
