Our Story

When I was 8 years old, I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. I went through several rounds of chemotherapy, which caused me to have congestive heart failure. With the help of my amazing doctors and heart medication, my heart grew stronger. Unfortunately, fifteen years later my heart has become weaker over time. I had three heart catheterizations before the doctors decided that the best thing would be to give me an LVAD (Left Ventricle Assistive Device). This device helps to pump blood through my heart and allows me to live a somewhat normal life until I can get a heart transplant.

Even though I battled cancer at such a young age and have a weak heart, this hasn’t stopped me from living my life. I always try to make the best of every situation. When I was younger, I drew pictures for the hospital and attended the hospital’s summer camp with my sister for cancer patients and their siblings. I have been a camp counselor for seven years now and it has honestly been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I’m currently a college student at Lone Star College – North Harris. I aspire to pursue a career as a Child Life Specialist.

Thank you for all of your support and encouragement!

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
