With me only getting 2 hours of sleep last night, surely I figured I would be cranky with “RBF” but nope not today! My day was full of smiles and hugs and I have this guy right here to thank for making that all happen; not just for today but for the last 5 months.
Dr. Akay was the surgeon who saved my life by giving me Lilo.
I was on HVI-5 to give my nurses the shrinky dink keychains I made for them and he spotted me with the biggest smile and warmest hug! I remember him when he would come check on me in the hospital, but had no idea he was the one who did my LVAD surgery. But MY GOD did it make my day to see him as an outpatient and him getting to see me doing so much better.
His exact words were “I know you don’t remember me, but I’m so happy to see you. This is amazing I can’t believe this, you look so good.”
Me: “Of course I remember you, I just didn’t know you were the one who did my surgery.”
I started tearing up as I walked to the elevator. Man, I’ve become so emotional since receiving Lilo, but definitely not in a bad way. I just feel so blessed and loved by everyone at the hospital…nurses, doctors, surgeons, room service staff, & Lilo’s coordinator. They never fail to make my days in the hospital and clinic feel anything less than amazing with their ongoing support, love, hugs and smiles.
Wow, I am so HAPPY in this moment.
