Just a little Check-in

My continues to do amazingly at school. Some of the teachers have told us that if they hadn’t have had the heads up from the administration about what Mylin went through over the summer, they would have never known.

We had a week or so of hard to control blood sugars and realized it was due to an older batch of Omnipod’s. These particular pods didn’t have the capability to give Mylin a goal of a blood sugar of 100. The lowest goal on these Omnipods was 110, and it’s crazy what a difference that made. the DISCC team in Ohio is always keeping an eye on Mylin‘s blood sugars from afar. They reached out to talk to us about what was going on after noticing the change in Mylin‘s blood sugar, and asked us to stop using those pods and save them as backups. They said anytime our tech isn’t working like that not to just push through, because it’s so important to baby those islets right now.

Mylin has had some bad back pain the last 5 days. It’s gotten so much that the muscles themselves are spasming. It’s also had them more tired than they have been. On the days they haven’t gone to school or come home early, they have slept most of the day. We aren’t totally sure why this is happening, but have a doctors appointment next week. They are home from school with the pain today, and missed some last week too. It’s still way less missed school than the last two years though.

Yesterday Mylin had their mid high school reflection project presentation. I got to attend as a volunteer judge for the class. At the beginning, they dedicated their presentation to Daniel and I as well as all the doctors at Nationwide. they said without us, they wouldn’t be as far as they are, and maybe wouldn’t be here at all. It was so nice to hear them talk about their thoughts on the future, and look back at how far they’ve gone the last two years. I am beyond proud of this kiddo. they have big dreams, and I know they won’t give up. 🩷

Most days, Mylin is still more energetic and awake than they have been in years by far. I am continually amazed when I come home late from work and they are still awake. As they come back to their normal self, it is cracking me up to see/hear them be motherly to the twins. Definitely a protective sister over here! They are attending an anime fest with their bestie in the next week, and already super pumped about Halloween next month! It’s their favorite holiday and they have missed out on the fun the last several years.
