The past 2 weeks have served to remind us of that. So far, Mylin has exceeded all expectations in their recovery timeline. We had been told we’d likely be in Ohio until mid August. Instead, Mylin made the first day of school and has generally been doing great! There is a temptation in there to just assume it’s smooth sailing from here on out, but that is not reality. Mylin has had an uptick in back pain the past 2 weeks. They’ve missed a few days of school due to pain and generally just feeling rough. Last week we even took them to the ER to ensure everything was ok since they weren’t improving and there was concern about internal issues.
This ER trip was interesting. It’s not surprising, but neither of the doctors had heard of TPIAT surgery. Thankfully Nationwide Children’s hospital got in touch with them to coordinate on care. We did labs and a CT scan. Everything came back clean and Mylin’s internals look good. After a few hours of monitoring they sent us home. Mylin spent the rest of the weekend of mostly sleeping. Thankfully they started to improve Sunday afternoon.
This is a short entry, but I wanted to share how we were reminded that healing takes time. TPIAT is a crazy involved surgery and we’re still only 2 months post op. We have a long way to go, and well, Mylin is still living with diabetes and no pancreas. There will be bumps.

Praying for you & Mylin!!!!! xxoo
