Getting rid of the epidural as proven tricky to manage the pain as of now. This has made nausea worse too. My is about to start on another pain med, but due to us changing floors it’s a little delayed. Their pain is at a 9 which is as bad as it’s been ever pretty much (and I mean throughout their entire pancreas journey, not just here). The nausea is really high too. Really hoping that all gets under control. The reason they take the epidural out now is because past 7 days, the risk of infection rises exponentially.

Amidst all of this, My still did change from the ICU floor to regular floor. We will miss the amazing PICU nurses and doctors, but are so glad this means My is heading in the right direction. We filled up the butterfly wagon, and went back up to the 11th floor. This is the same floor My spent the night at the night before surgery.

With the move to the regular floor, My will be taken off of the IV insulin. They’ll start with a hospital issued pump and have hourly finger pricks for awhile. This can cause the blood sugar can be a bit wonky (and we are getting a little higher reads) for a while as all the right adjustments are figured out. Then at the end of the week, My will get the pump we picked together during our diabetes training. Daniel and I have another diabetes/pump class on Friday. We’ve had so many hours of training already and I am just hoping with as much as we have had going on and how much of an exhausting time it’s been, that we retained the majority of it.

Discharge team came by this afternoon and let us know that Daniel and I will also attend a class all about Mylin’s G/J Tube. While discharge is a long way off, there is a lot of info we’ll need to take in before that day comes to be able to properly care for Mylin and support their recovery.
