After discussing some symptoms Sylvia was having with her liver doctor, we drove to Cincinnati on Friday, January 31st for her to be admitted to the hospital. She was refusing to drink her bottles and was fussy and irritable. We are glad we came when we did, as her bloodwork was off and she has not been gaining weight like she should. An ultrasound showed that her ascites are worsening, causing fluid build up in her belly. She is currently getting NG tube feeds due to not taking her bottles and her team is trying to get the fluid off with diuretics. She had an appointment with her liver doctor the week before all this, which shows just how fast liver disease can progress.
We are so fortunate to have a room at the Ronald Mcdonald House right next door and lots of resources here at the hospital. Continue to pray for us and sweet Sylvia as the care team works to get her as healthy as possible before her scheduled living donor transplant on March 6th. We are so grateful to our family who are helping to keep big sister Stella surrounded with love and fun activities while we are away.
Update: We were able to come home on Wednesday 2/5! Sylvia has not been taking formula by mouth so we are continuing her NG tube feeds at home. Along with the busy feeding schedule comes lots of medications and weekly visits to her liver doctor in Cincinnati until her transplant.
If you are wondering how you can help, please consider donating to COTA in honor of Sylvia to help pay for transplant related expenses.
