Ear infection and pneumonia

Unfortunately, Bianca’s not enjoying 2024 yet. First she had an ear infection (out of nowhere, it seemed!) and now, pneumonia. She started with a dry cough in late November, and since then she’s had various MDs listen to her lungs (pediatrician, urgent care, cardiology, etc)… but we scheduled a follow up with her incredible pediatrician (to confirm the ear infection was gone- it’s tough to know how much antibiotics newly immunosuppressed kids need) and he heard the unfortunate crackling in her lower left lung, and confirmed the pneumonia via xray.

She’s had some rough moments, O2 dropping into the 80s and difficulty sleeping, but with some at home RT (respiratory therapy) like clapping on her back, getting her moving and coughing- the secretions move and she’s back into the mid 90s. Mostly in the 94-96 range. We started azithromycin today- here’s to hoping it kicks it!

Does anyone remember when the girls would sleep in the same room every night after we moved home, this time last year? They are doing so again tonight. I think Fiona’s worried about Bianca and wanted to take care of her- and Bianca loves having Fiona close. I love their bond, especially when it feels like they spend so much time squabbling and whining about each other every day.

Send us well wishes, and hug your siblings 🥰😉

  1. Such a tough start to a new year….so sorry about how hard this is…but it sounds like progress is being made and you have the support of great medical providers to add to your own wisdom and wealth of knowledge. Love the girls close and supportive relationship…means the world! sending healing thoughts and may the next few days show evidence of healing! Blessings, Sharon
