French Braids and Painted Nails

I am back in the hospital. Delia had a rough night and morning. She has an ng tube pumping all sorts of nastiness from her stomach but it was irritating her nose yesterday and she was up multiple times because of nose bleeds. They took out the tube last night which stopped the bleeding. She was still really nauseated this morning so they just had to put it back in. Not a pleasant process but she did great. It is currently pumping out a lot of nasty black fluid, which I am assured is normal. She also blew an iv so she had to get a new one put in and the dressing changed on her picc line (a very uncomfortable process that she really hates). She’s really tired and down and hasn’t talked to me much yet. The good news is her numbers all look really good and encouraging and are trending the right way.

Platelets look good and are trending up. She’s getting a red blood cell transfusion today. They are on the low side but not dangerously low. They just think the transfusion will boost her a bit.

She’s mostly very sleepy and nauseated today. Her throat hurts from the tube so she’s not wanting to talk much. I found out more about her surgery on Wednesday and she basically had a type of gastric bypass surgery. From what I understand, (the doctor drew a picture but it’s pretty terrible) they tied off the tube (valve? Artery? Hose?) going from her bile duct to her pancreas and attached her bile duct directly to her intestines. She’s still getting all the acids she needs but without the possibility of the bile duct backing up. She ended up not needing one of the drains they anticipated her coming out of surgery with and she got another one taken out during surgery, so she only has one drain now!

She’s not in much pain today and they took her off the pain meds so it’s just as needed. I am hoping she’ll feel better tomorrow. Good news is all her numbers are good, so there’s no sign of rejection.

The photo is of Delia’s hair, which Nick braided. He also painted her nails. (I apologize that it’s sideways. The post editor is giving me struggles tonight. ~Danielle)

  1. Will continue praying till she is well on her own outside the hospital. No child should go thru what she is going through. I have been in similar situations and I wish this on no one. Please put her on all your churches prayer chains! God is Great! His Hand is overseeing this all.

  2. We continue to pray along with 250+ Prayer Warriors. Believing the Great Physician for His best for Delia.
