Biopsy Results

Biopsy results came back today and confirmed a liver rejection episode. We will spend the next five days in the hospital where Eva will receive IV Prednisone as treatment and they will watch her liver levels and Tacrolimus (anti-rejection medication) levels carefully. Outside of the nuisance of a hospital stay and unpleasantness of needle pokes, she is asymptomatic and is feeling fine. I imagine she will begin to feel the side effects of what is undoubtedly a highly toxic medication at some point; although she has always tolerated Prednisone well in the past. For me, the biggest drawback to this situation is that she was beginning to close in on the one year mark which was when they would have started lowering the Tacrolimus and she could start building a stronger immune system, which is a plus in this current climate; but now, we go backward.  When this episode is over, her Tacrolimus levels will return to a state closer to month 4 post-transplant rather than month 9.

Please continue to pray that she stay strong and healthy as she has these past 9 months. Your prayers have been greatly appreciated.

Blessings
