Return home post-lung transplant

Good Morning Friends and Family,

As of 11:30am November 15, 2018; Jennie was released from Mayo to return home after 3 months of being in Jacksonville for her follow up treatment for the Double Lung Transplant that she received on August 13, 2018! She spent the last 3 months in Jacksonville receiving follow up care and testing to manage her double lung transplant due to Cystic Fibrosis. This past week she spent the week in Jacksonville with her niece Megan Hickman for testing and follow doctor appointments to complete her 3 month post-transplant evaluation period. This included lab work, Pulmonary Function Test (PFT’S), a 6 minute walk, physical therapy, a 24hr GI Mobility test, a bronchoscopy to check the lungs internally along with a biopsy to rule out rejection, infectious disease, endocrine and the social worker.

Jennie passed all her follow up testing with flying colors minus to GI mobility testing, but this was to be expected due to her GERD diagnosis. Her new beautiful lungs look perfect, no bacteria’s, funguses or rejection were detected. Jennie’s lung function is now 92% and only expected to improve as time goes on. Jennie’s doctors are very excited to see her progress and quick recovery. She does not need to return to Mayo for her next follow up until February 2019 for her 6 month check. Upon arrival at home, Jennie was greeted by her boyfriend Jason and his son Brendon along with their 3 dogs. It was a beautiful reunion for all.

Jennie’s unable to return to work at this time due to the doctors not giving approval due to the nation of her surgery and will re-assess her work readiness in February. SO what is next for Jennie? She plans to spend quality time with her family and friends; which will include a trip to Virgina to see her Best Friend Catherine whom she has not seen in a year due to her health.

Jennie and her family would like to thank each and everyone that has followed her story, shared her story and contributed to COTA in her honor. Without everyone of you, this journey would not have been possible.
