Jessica was hospitalized several weeks ago in the Acute Pulmonary Ward; the doctors treated her with multiple IV antibiotics and were determined to keep her hospitalized until she had a double lung transplant. A set of lungs became available and we all were excited about the prospect of the surgery and went through all of the steps to include Jessica being led away to the surgical prep, only to be told that the donor lungs were not good. Very disappointing. Three days later, another set was offered and she accepted, so we repeated the process and were notified by the surgical team that these lungs were good and that they were going to proceed with the 10-12 hour procedure. Following the surgery, Jessica was moved to the intensive care unit; has a road to recovery.
