Barely 12/19 the phone rings. It’s Cincinnati calling to say they have a liver for Khloe. Although she has been listed at this point for 368 days it still comes as a huge shock. Because on 12/15 they did an annual review of Khloe and actually dropped her a point. So as mom is trying to process the call and listen the rest of the family is over come with emotion. Cincinnati tells them that they don’t have to be at the hospital until 5am but didn’t know a surgery time. Just a half hour later they had called back saying surgery is at noon!! Amanda Jack and Khloe headed towards a new beginning. They took Khloe back at noon and started the surgery at 1:30. The coordinator was coming out giving hr details. They had prepared them for it to take a few hours to get the old liver out due to scaring and unknown once they got in there. After just a little over an hr later they had made it to the old liver without any issues. About an hr after that the old liver was out. And shockingly about an hr after that her new liver was being put in. The Dr’s said as soon as they connected blood vessels and allowed blood into the new liver it turned pink!! See usually it takes a little bit for the new liver to wake back up. But hers woke up ready to go. She got to come out of the OR without a breathing tube and not needing any blood! By the time the Dr came to talk to them after they had closed her up and everything it had only been 6hrs!! It took a few hrs for Jack and Amanda to finally be able to see her all settled in up in the ICU. But by 10pm they were reunited again. And immediately  you could tell the difference in Khloe. Her skin is a color we’ve never seen before. Her eyes have white! This is the best Christmas miracle. She has been amazing the Dr’s and nurses with how well she is doing.Shes eating Popsicles and ice chips,, drinking ice water and has been out of bed a handful of times. She has already lost one IV and her catheter. So that means she’s getting up to use the potty!!!! So as sad as we are for the donors family we are beyond excited for this new journey.
