Why Recommend COTA
Lifetime of Support
When a transplant family partners with COTA, a lifetime journey begins. Funds raised by community campaigns are available for transplant-related expenses including expenses incurred from other related diagnoses … for a lifetime.
Services at No Cost
COTA does not charge for its services. 100% of funds raised in honor of patients are available for transplant-related expenses.
Volunteer Training and Support
With nearly four decades of experience, COTA has the expertise to help volunteers be successful. We provide ongoing support to community campaign volunteers and patient families.
Administrator of the Funds and Nonprofit Status
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association is a national, nonprofit organization. COTA is responsible for fundraising campaign oversight, and serves as owner and administrator of funds raised.
Funds Available for Transplant-Related Expenses
100% of the funds raised through COTA in honor of patients are available for transplant-related expenses before, during and after the transplant. Organ and tissue donors’ expenses may also be submitted for allocation.
Ongoing Support
Before, during and after the community fundraising campaign, COTA provides printed and web-based materials, telephone support and websites that are free of charge.
Funds Raised Are Not Taxable
Because the Children’s Organ Transplant Association is the owner and administrator of all funds, transplant families are not taxed on these funds. In addition, these funds generally do not jeopardize typical assistance program participation.
Transplant Family Focused
COTA is the largest national fundraising organization solely dedicated to assisting and supporting transplant families.
Quick Processing of Transplant-Related Submissions
COTA offers several services to facilitate rapid processing of transplant family grant requests including online submission, direct deposit of allocated funds and weekly processing.
Direct Payment for Transplant-Related Services
By paying providers directly for some transplant-related travel and medical expenses, the Children’s Organ Transplant Association alleviates this burden and stress for transplant families.
Online Fundraising
COTA provides free websites to enhance fundraising. We do not charge a percentage of proceeds that are raised, as do most crowdfunding sites. Funds raised in honor of COTA transplant patients are not considered income and generally do not jeopardize typical assistance programs families may qualify for.
Personalized and Individual Support
Because each journey is unique, the Children’s Organ Transplant Association considers the variables of life when supporting transplant families. From the initial conversation with us, to individualized fundraising goals, to one-on-one patient/caregiver orientations, we understand that ‘one size’ does not fit all.
