Ups and Downs

This week certainly had its ups and downs. It was a tumultuous week in our county, but somewhere in Philadelphia a little family focuses on health and each other.

Jacob has been feeling under the weather and recent bloodwork had shown some sort of virus in his body. Out of an abundance of caution the doctors recommended that he admitted into the hospital overnight for medicine and monitoring. So Friday night Ali and Jakey headed back to CHOP, and spent the next day and half there – receiving massive antivirals. According to mom “they think it’s a combo of virus and adrenal insufficiency from weaning the steroids.” The meds made him super pukey but he was able to go back to the comfort of their Philly home on Sunday.

Meanwhile Saturday was Ali’s Birthday! Happy Birthday to this AWESOME Mom, Wife, Friend, Room Mom, Soccer Mom, Temple helper, Scout Mom, Advocate, the list goes on and on, Caring, Vibrant lady! Postponing much of the celebration to Sunday, Dave presented Ali with this Gluten-Free, Vegan, Nut Free, Soy Free Chocolate Cake that everyone could enjoy while spending the afternoon relaxing! (It looks delicious!)

Todays’ clinic visits confirmed that Eli is getting his Broviac central line out tomorrow (an outpatient procedure), though he does need to start drinking more fluids. Jacobs’ appointment was focused on picking up more with Physical Therapy.

It’s hard to tell sometimes that the boys are sick when you see them roughhousing with Dad and smiling. But those are the ups and downs of Bone Marrow Transplants.
