Gillian and I have spent the weekend in the hospital. She experienced some vision loss in her left eye, so we went to the ER, and she was admitted to the University of Utah hospital.
She has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH), which means there is increased cerebrospinal fluid around her brain, putting significant pressure on her optic nerves. The blind spot in her left eye has grown larger, and she has now developed one in her right eye as well.
Yesterday, they performed a lumbar puncture to drain excess fluid and measure the pressure. The doctors said they do not like to see pressure above 25, and hers was over 55. They actually stop measuring at 55, but her pressure exceeded that โ so it is an extremely high amount of pressure. At this point, they do not believe this is related to her surgery or prior health history.
This afternoon, ophthalmology examined her again because her vision had worsened and she has been dealing with a severe headache. Since her vision continues to decline, the doctors are trying to preserve it by transferring her to the Neuro ICU. There, they plan to place a drain in her lower spine to help relieve pressure on her brain and optic nerves.
Please keep her in your prayers. Thank you so much!!
