Hayden finally got to go spend some time with his best friend in Little Rock. It was great to see him smiling and trying to keep up with Preston. He sure loves spending time with him as he says “it is never long enough.” We have completed two weeks of the Hemo dialysis training. Hayden is starting to get used to dialysis everyday. The first week of training we struggled with blood pressures and him not feeling good. By the end of the second week he was starting to feel and act better. We are hopeful he will feel better this week. Hemo dialysis training is going well. Steve and I are both overwhelmed with how much we have to know and understand. There are over 60 steps to just set up the machine everyday which takes just at an hour to get the machine ready. Hayden will be hooked up to the machine for 2.5 hours each day at home. We may get to take a day break from treatment here and there if he is feeling good. Then it will take an hour to clean up the machine after treatment. We are only the second family Children’s Mercy has trained on Hemo dialysis. While we are thankful to be given this option it is a huge responsibility and very intimidating. Please continue to pray for Hayden. He is missing his friends and his home. Sitting in a dialysis bay from 8:00am-5:00pm is difficult for him. We will do blood work on Wednesday to check the viruses and his DSA’s. If the viruses are still in his system we may have to come up with a different plan to get rid of them so we can move forward with a transplant.
So many prayers coming your way!
AlwAys thinking of all of you. This is a family adventure as well as a huge one for Hayden. Hope you are home and back to another new normal soon.
